Example of Belt wear on a Thunder Laser Nova Series Machine

Preface: This article covers what worn belts may look like on your Nova  series machine.

Odometer Reading:

Using Lightburn's "Get Controller information" we can take a peak at the odometer of the machine.

The Nova 51 has over 5000 hours of movement with over 10 million meters of motion in the X direction and over 32000 meters of motion in the Y direction.

Visual Belt Wear Inspection

On the Used Worn Belt take note of how the teeth of the belt are shaped and how poorly they mesh together compared to how the teeth of the New Belt look. The Used Worn belt has obvious wear and was in need of replacement

New Belt

Missing Teeth:
Belt was likely over tightened and run. Only lasted a brief period.

Replacement Belts:

Small X Motor Loop Belt
Small Y Motor Loop Belt (3:1 gear ratio)
Small Y Motor Loop Belt(2:1 gear ratio)
Bulk X/Y Belt (Purchase by the foot)

Which Ratio Y Motor Loop Belt do you have

The difference in the belts will be determined by the marking on the belt and the visual of the gear pulley on the split shaft. The 3:1 gear ratio belt will be a 3m-267-15 belt
Y Motor Loop Belt 2:1
 Y Motor Loop Belt 3:1
