How To Properly Use The Thunder Laser Power Meter

Overview

This article will cover how to use the laser power meter. If you were directed to this article, you likely have a meter and are in the middle of diagnostics so please carefully look over and follow this article

Its terribly important to get this equipment back as quickly as the test(s) can be completed.  Please see the returns section below for more.

Safety

Take all the required safety procedures needed when working with laser beams and wear protection glasses all the time! The laser beam must hit ONLY the sensor head front side. Avoid to incidentally expose the protected stainless steel stem to the laser beam as dangerous back-reflections can be produced! Never touch the sensor head as this part can reach 70°C of temperature! In the case the laser power density is close to the damage threshold of the head absorber coating, damages like coating discoloration or underlying metal melting could occur. In both cases consult LaserPoint.

Operation

This meter is not designed for a focused beam. It is meant to measure the 'raw' beam before it is focused.
if you want a measurement past mirror 3, remove the lens assembly and fire without a lens onto the meter.

  1. Press the start button, immediately move the target surface to the area to be measured and wait for the measurement.
  2. When you hear the first sound of the beep, it will start measuring and please keep the target surface steady.
  3. When you hear the second beep, the measurement is complete. Please remove the target surface from the area. Don't keep it there for long.
  4. When you hear the third beep, the system will automatically turn off.

If the beep is very long and shows 000.0 when used continuously, it means the temperature is too high or the power is over the measuring range. Please wait until it cools down.
If the beep is very long and shows 888.8, the sensor is defective. Please contact support.

Precautions

  1. Handle it gently to avoid damaging this precise instrument.
  2. Try to aim the laser beam at the center of the target surface.
  3. In case of multiple use, please wait until it cools down to room temperature before next measurement.

Reporting Your Findings

Please reply to the ticket for the issue you are diagnosing with your findings and the team will evaluate

Returns

Its important to complete the test and return the meter (a return label is provided) as quickly as possible to help speed up your diagnosis and to keep from impeding our diagnostics for those who may be waiting for the meter. Some updates on the return process in your ticket would be greatly appreciated so we can be on the lookout.
