How to Level your Honeycomb bed to your Laser Head on your Thunder Bolt Machine

Preface: This article covers the basics of leveling your Honeycomb bed on your Thunder Bolt Laser

Complete Guide:

Tools you will need:

2.5mm Allen Wrench (silver)
4mm Allen Wrench (red)
Small Flat uniform material (MDF Disc)
Bolt Manual Focus Tool

Pre-Requisites:

You will need to know how to jog the laser around the bed, how to auto-focus and to use the manual focus tool.

Process Description:

Basically what you need to do is set a corner as your 0 point. At that corner (Back Left), you will do an auto-focus to your material on the honeycomb. Then double check that the Manual focus tool is calibrated to the surface of the material as well. Then you should jog to the opposite corner (Front Right) and check the levelness, then the other 2 corners.

Take a summary of which corner is off the most and start there. Note that as you adjust one corner, it can affect the others. As you adjust, go back and re-check your Zero corner (reset the focus if needed) and the other 3 corners. You should target +-.5mm as a maximum variance.

Zero Corner Example:

How to Adjust the Corner Height:

With the laser head and material disc in the corner, place the Manual Focus gauge on the laser head. Notice the gap that needs to be closed.

1. Loosen Main Bolt (4mm Allen wrench)

Each Corner Has 1 Bolt and two Grub Screws:
Just barely loosen up the main bolt:

2. Raise or Lower Grub Screws (2.5mm Allen Wrench) to Close the Gap

Turn to the Right to raise the bed
Turn to the Left to lower the bed

Gap Closed:

3. Tighten Corner Bolt

4. Next 2 Corners and 0 Corner:

Do the other 2 corners and then go back to the 0 Corner and check it too. This process is iterative to get it level across the 4 corners.
