Attenuating The Beeper In GT5 Controller (HMI)

We have had feedback about the beeper in the GT5 HMI in Thunder Bolt (and, at some point, others) is excessively loud and even disruptive.

Thunder Laser USA is collaborating with Thunder Laser China R&D to explore this further.

For now we have this.....

We do not typically recommend altering a safety/warning feature. We publish this minimally-invasive best practice to mitigate the beeper in situations where it is critically disruptive.

Basic Attenuation

To attenuate the most basic level, you can cover this area on the back of the control panel (hmi).

You will need access to the back of the HMI for this, you can probably do that without removing the HMI.

Maximum Attenuation

If you want maximum attenuation you will first need to to the above basic attenuation.
Carefully remove the HMI by loosening the 2 metal clamps on top and bottom.
They will come out and they are a bit awkward to reinstall, but its not too bad.

Then carefully roll the hmi out from the front just enough to disconnect the 2 connectors on the bottom of the unit.

Here is a video that shows the GT5 HMI removal

Then remove the 4 screws and pop the back cover off that HMI carefully.
it should expose the actual transducer the noise is coming from. Cover it with tape just as the holes in the cover for maximum attenuation.

Then reassemble and reinstall.
